Maximize Your Lead Generation Efforts by "Recycling" Your Leads

By Ed Gandia The basic lead generation process is pretty much the same from company to company. Inquiries come intheyre qualifiedand then sent to the sales team. Some turn into customers. Some dont. Which means that, over time, every organization ends up with a pile of prospects that either disengaged during the sales cycle (for whatever reason)or decided to go with a competitor. So heres the big question: is anyone in your company following up with these potential future opportunities? I can tell you that very few companies Ive worked with have systems in place to nurture these longer-term prospects. Yet, the potential for increased sales is significant, and can be very cost-effective. Heres one reason these prospects dont get much attention: good salespeople tend to spend most of their time on higher-probability opportunities with the best chance of closing the quickest. And who can blame them? Reps are under constant pressure to close business and meet quotas. That means theres little time for lower-probability prospects. But that doesnt mean you should throw these leads away. There can be tremendous long-term value in these opportunitiesif you can set up a system that allows you to follow up on them consistentlyand without breaking the bank. I call this strategy lead recycling because, in essence, thats exactly what youre doingyoure recycling these longer-term prospects back through a targeted lead generation process. The payoff? Ive seen this strategy boost sales by 5% (even 10% or more) over the course of a yearall from qualified prospects that would have normally been ignored! In fact, one of my software clients recently tested a new lead recycling program as part of an effort to grow sales to record levels. As a result of this new initiative, they were able to increase sales of one of their solutions by 13% over the course of a year! This company was generating an average of 600 inquiries per year for one of their products. From that point: * Some 450 of those 600 inquiries turned into appointments * Nearly 90 of those 450 appointments eventually turned into sales (over the course of a year) This was good enough to meet budgets. But it also meant that over 500 inquirers were NOT buying from them every year! They knew it wasnt practical to expect sales to follow up on every one of these lost opportunities. So they implemented a system that funneled these longer-term prospects back to marketing, using a combination of email and direct mail. The results were outstanding. Over the course of a year they were able to close an additional 12 new opportunities just from this lista lift in sales of over 13%! So heres why this strategy works so well: When it comes to prospects youve engaged with in the past, youve probably done most of the heavy lifting already. Youve done the hard work of getting them to respond to a campaign. You may even have established a certain degree or rapport and trust with many of them. And youve educated them on your offerings and how they can solve their business problems. Therefore, when a prospect disengages because of bad timing or budget constraints or other reasons, if you dont stay in touch with this growing list, you risk losing them to a competitorsomeone who will greatly benefit from the time and effort you spent educating these folks. Thinking about implementing a lead-recycling program? Here are some key items to keep in mind: 1. Get buy-in from sales. That may not be easy at first, but explain that youre trying to make their jobs easier. By setting up this program, youre taking away the burden of following up with lower-ranked leads. This gives them more time to focus on higher-probability opportunities. And best of all, youll be able to deliver them a handful of well-nurtured leads every year. 2. Consider qualifying more thoroughly up front. This places a bigger burden on marketing. But in the long run, everyone wins. Leads that are simply inquiring at this point and are months away from seriously evaluating options should all go straight into this nurturing program. Theyre just not ready to be turned over. 3. Set up systems that allow sales to easily forward prospects that need to be recycled. They should include lost opportunities, delayed decisions, and warm leads that have turned cold. 4. Lastly, seed this prospect list with a steady stream of value-added communications. Consider launching an e-newsletter in order to gather more opt-in email addresses. Also, try direct mail targeted at specific groups within this list. And as long as each of these communications has an appealing call to action (demo/presentation CD, white paper, an invitation to a Webinar, and so on), you continually increase your chances of creating top-of-mind awareness with these prospects. Bottom line: These days, it takes tremendous effort to generate qualified leads. Dont let any of them fall through the cracks. The ancient Saxons celebrated the return of spring with an uproarious festival in honor of the goddess of spring and her symbol, the rabbit. In many cultures, the egg was the symbol of rebirth. The custom of exchanging eggs in springtime was already in place when second-century Christian missionaries encountered Saxon tribes in northern Germany. Her son observed that his mother still ate a lot and was a burden on the household. He decided that the burden was too heavy on him and he could no longer able to support her. The thought of abandoning her began to occupy his mind and one day he resolved to act on this unrighteous thought. He lifted his mother up onto his back and carried her towards the nearby mountain. As he climbed the mountain track, he could hear the sound of twigs snapping. Aha! he thought, She must be leaving markers so she can find her way home. Without giving any attention to his mother, the son continued on, further and further into the mountain. Eventually, after the long and exhausting climb, they came to a lonely and desolate spot. The man put his mother down on the ground and said coldly to her. This is where we part. Now you can look after yourself. His mother looked up and spoke to him kindly. On the way up the mountain I snapped many twigs to mark the way we came. So long as you follow them carefully on your way down, you wont get lost. The great emphasis placed on scientific progress tends to replace ancient truths. Concrete objects and tangible rewards assume greater value than intangible qualities such as virtue. We fail to perceive the difference between reality and illusion. The eternal inner essence is being questioned or disbelieved. We based our judgements and analyses on physical measurement when, in fact, the truth is not how much we have in terms of money or possessions but the amount of good deeds, virtues and wisdom that we have gained. In the teachings of Tao, first is to be good and love your parents by being a filial son and the second is brotherly love. Why did the man in the story abandon his mother? He could see only that she was old and senile and therefore a drain on the household resources. He could see her only as a burden. In other words, he was more concerned about material things than about spiritual values and the natural principle of life. Life is formed and influenced by both spirit and matter. Spirit, however precedes matter. The intangible is the controlling element behind the tangible. If it is the other way round, then we have problem. Life will not be at peace and the person cannot be truly a good man. What he thinks is only to benefit himself. In the Wisdom of Vegetable Roots, it is written: Virtue is the master of capability. Capability is the slave of virtue. Being capable but having no virtue is like the state of a household when the master is away. Without supervision, the servants dominate the household. How can such a household not be chaotic? If a person has fulfilled the principle guiding human relationships, then that person is close to the Heavenly Tao. I've seen women with pictures so diverse that you'd swear an entire sorority was sharing one profile. Hair color, various stages of weight gain/loss, age differences, etc. Interestingly, I have found that there is virtually no indication as to which of the pics someone is going to really look like, with two exceptions: 1) The bigger the body, the greater the likelihood of current accuracy, and 2) The ones with the tattoos are probably newer. That said, I've met women who look like NONE of their umpteen pictures, which perhaps serves as a reasonable indictment of the entire purpose of the pics to begin with, right? Also a potential question mark is the person who teases you with the promise of "12 pics", all but one of which are dogs, sunsets, BMWs, Paris, etc. What is that about? Is the subject of the profile not "enough" to impress me? If notwellyou get it. Look also for subtle (or not so much) clues about someone's true personality in the pics. You know this guy. He's the one who's such a "loyal, family-man" type in the profile, and posts the picture where you can see what's going on at the "gentlemen's club" in the background. Listing examples here could go on all day. So what are some indicators that the pics are good and accurate? Well, firstconsistency. Several pics that are clearly of the same person is a plus, assuming they all aren't from the same photo session or something. In this case, you can usually be sure that s/he might look like that when and if you meet. Be careful here, because some people are either very photogenic or not. Feel free to ask that question, and listen closely to the answer-which might be surprisingly candid. Actually if someone says, "I take TERRIBLE pics!" that tends to be a good sign. If you think about it, that makes sense if you are already liking what you see. Next, variety. A face shot, a full-body shot, indoor, outdoors, casual, formal, silly, serious, smiling, serious, etc. If people have nothing to hide here, they shouldn't and typically won't. I'm not talking about bikini shots being necessary here though, and the general consensus among women I've noticed is that they'd rather guys keep their clothes on in profile pics. Carbohydrates Classification: Carbohydrates are grouped into two types depending on structures of their molecules. 1) Simple carbohydrates:- These are the mono and disaccharides e.g. glucose and fructose. 2) Complex carbohydrates:- These are polymers or polysaccharides. Examples include starch, fibre, and glycogen. Carbohydrates can only be also be grouped into three main forms as foods. (i) Sugars: - These consist of simple carbohydrates both mono and disaccharides for example glucose (the blood sugar) galactose, the sugar found in milk and fructose the sugar found in fruits and honey are all mono-saccharides. Common disaccharides include sucrose the common table sugar which is glucose bonded to a fructose, lactose the main sugar in milk (glucose + galactose) and maltose a product of starch digestion (glucose + glucose) (ii) Starch: - This is a complex carbohydrates and a polysaccharide. It is the principle form used by plants to store glucose. It is a polymer or a chain of bonded glucose molecules. (iii) Fiber: - This is also a complex carbohydrate also called cellulose found in plants. This is one of the carbohydrates that cannot be broken down into sugar molecules in your digestive system. It passes through mostly undigested. In your body it cleans the digestive system keeping it healthy. Cellulose is probably the most abundant molecule in the biosphere e.g. wood is mostly cellulose, while cotton and paper is almost entirely cellulose. Carbohydrates are essential energy sources though some kind when eaten often and in large quantities actually increase risk for diabetes and coronary heart disease. It also may result into increase in your body weight. The digestive system handles all carbs in much the same way. Basically it breaks them down to glucose or any other simple sugar that can be absorbed into the body.
When we eat carbohydrates, its digestion starts in the mouth using saliva. Saliva has enzymes called amylace which breaks down polymers of starch. By the time starch is getting to the stomach it has been broken down to glucose. This glucose is then absorbed into the blood stream then the blood transports it to your body cells. Body cells absorb the glucose for the use of creating energy. When excess carbohydrates are eaten, the body converts the extra glucose into glycogen. Glycogen is stored in skeletal muscles and liver. This acts as the glucose reservoir in your body. In case of energy shortage, glycogen is broken down to glucose in a process called glycogenolysis. Glycogen is the immediate store of energy in your body. It gets depleted in about 24 hours if not replenished. Your diet should always consist of some energy for nutrition. Most of this energy is provided by the carbohydrates. In some circumstances, energy is provided by proteins and fats. Good and bad Carbs: Science on nutrition is proving that there are now healthy and unhealthy carbohydrates. They are using the glycemic index to be able to determine the healthier carbohydrates. The Glycemic index measures how fast and how far blood sugar (glucose) rises after you eat a certain carbohydrate source of food. For example, white bread is considered to be a high glycemic index food. This is because it is quickly digested and absorbed into the blood stream. This consequently increases the blood sugar level very high and very fast. On the other hand whole wheat bread is digested much more slowly. This causes a lower and more gentle change in blood sugar level so it is said to have a low glycemic index. Carbohydrate foods with high glycemic index have been linked to increase in both diabetes, unhealthy weight and heart disease while low glycemic index has been shown to control type two diabetes. You will find, even though the food pyramid recommends a mainly plant based nutritional diet, it insists on whole foods. This is because a major determinant of a food's glycemic index is how processed the carbohydrate is. Some determinants of GI (Glycemic Index) are listed below; i) Processing:- The more finely ground grain is rapidly digested due to increased surface area hence a higher GI. Processing tends to remove the fibre rich outer bran. It also removes the vitamins and mineral rich inner germ, basically stripping the food all its nutrients except carbs. ii) Fiber-content: - The bran for example shields the food from immediate rapid action by enzymes. This slows the enzymes effectiveness in releasing the sugar molecules into the blood stream. iii) Ripeness: - The more ripe a fruit or vegetable the more the sugar it has hence a higher G.I. iv) Structure of the starch: - Occurring in many structural forms, the more a starch isomer is branched the less easily is broken down. For example a potato is more easily broken down because its starch is only a long chain. This makes it a high G.I. food. v)Fats and acid content :- The more fat and acid a food contains the slower its carbohydrates are turned into sugar. Determining G.I. may end up being a little complicated. A combination of the above factors may have counter-intuitive results. But the rule is simple; always prefer whole grain products and them more natural forms of carbohydrates. These two baits bring back fond memories of years past and all out bass brawls on light gear. Perhaps no other baits are as synonymous for light tackle as the Beetle spin or the Road Runner. Both of these little powder kegs are spinner type baits. They may not be known exclusively as bass baits but both of these dynamos are definitely successful bass catchers and have been for years. They are inexpensive and available just about anywhere. I tend to use tiny braid with these baits. I also employ a light action rod that has a little give to it. I like setting up on fish with this rig. The braided line instantly telegraphs a strike and can wrestle fish out of dangerous places. The softer action rod helps throw the bait and the braid adds to the sensitivity you may lose with the lighter action rod. Beetle spin This little bait is a simple light jig head tipped with a small straight twin tailed beetle body combined with a spinner harness. It is a scaled down version of the more popular safety pin style spinner baits that are so common today. Fished on 4lb test and a rod with a whippy action, the Beetle Spin makes a devastating early season bait. Even in cold water, the beetle has a knack for producing tremendous numbers of bass along with a few good sized bass as well. I fish the beetle on a homemade 6-6 light action Helium spinning rod that features a split Tennessee handle. I prefer 4lb test on a Tica SB500 reel matched with that rod. This sweet smooth little combo telegraphs everything the beetle spin is doing and transmits it back to me. The light rod is a blast when battling fish. For all around fun, you cant beat this set up. The beetle spin is a year round bait. It will catch fish in all seasons. For me, it shines in the spring, the heat of the summer and again as the water temperatures drop in fall. The bait is available in a number of colors although I think that they for the most part are not all that important. I go with yellow or green on bright days and black for dark days. By Judy Cullins Do sales come from your ezine regularly? How many well-written articles do you submit per week to opt-in online ezines? How often do you send thank you's and follow up messages to your different email groups?
If you answered not many, then you need to re-evaluate. The answer to online success is the same as traditional success--promotion, promotion, promotion.
Use these easy ways to boost online credibility and sales:
1. Market and Make your Ezine a Sales Tool
Ezines are one road to sales if you have targeted subscribers who stay with you at least eight months. After four-seven issues, their trust builds and they eventually will buy from you. At the end of your feature article in your signature file include a link straight to your product or service sales letter related to your piece. Entice your ezine readers to go to your site often and stay a while to see new information, so they will eventually become faithful customers.
Many professionals complain that many subscribe to their ezine, but not many buy. Ask yourself why?
Is your ezine list of subscribers a targeted, preferred audience?
Many business people collect email addresses, but fail to categorize them so they can target a particular message and offer.
Be sure to give your targeted audience what they want. If you don't know who they are, write a short survey of less than five questions to potential readers. Ask them, "What do you want?" Include the answers in your ezine and send a thank you to those who participate.
As a book coach and Internet marketing coach, my ezine may not appeal to free-lance writers looking for work. While my ezine reports news on traditional publishing route, it focuses on self-publishing and eBooks by non-fiction writers.It shows authors how to sell online, much cheaper, easier and make more profit than traditional marketing.
What do you put in your subject line when you send your ezine out?
Did you know that less than 50% open your ezine? Give subscribers a reason to open your ezine. Put the title of your feature article in the subject line followed by a dash and your ezine title. If too long to fit on the line, just include the part that will be recognized followed by ellipses.
How are you building your ezine subscriber list? What do you offer people who subscribe?

Many Webmasters and other business people who subscribe will see your professional article and want to post it on their Web sites or in their own ezine. Why? Because they need fresh content for their site and ezine. They want and need your information. While the list changes you might try article_announce-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. What great publicity for you! It's so powerful, my site got to #1 in Google and 35 other search engines in just eight months after submitting 30 plus how-to articles.
You can also submit to Web sites directly such as Marketing-Seek.com. When people see your articles, they will see the link to your Web site and visit, even buy. This viral marketing spreads the word fast and wide. It listed your coach's URL on 4500 other web sites.
Submitting these how-to articles increases new subscribers from 10-25 each time you send. You can see why I'm sure to submit at least one article each week.
2. Submit Articles to Ezines and Web sites
After seeing different articles by you, your audience from the opt-in ezines and other Web sites will take advantage of your benefit-driven signature file, take you up on your free offer, visit your site, subscribe to your ezine, and eventually buy. Each time you submit an article, like me, you can boost new sales $50 to $100 a day.
Read articles on "How to Write a Publishable Article," "How to Write an Article Fast," "How to Submit Articles to Ezines and Web sites." Remember, the trick to promoting yourself and your products is giving away free information. It's like tasting chocolate cookie samples at Mrs. Fields. Visitors will be more likely to buy after they experience a piece of you.
Keep your articles categorized too. At first, I submitted random articles. Then I realized 20 years of coaching experience could be put into six categories:
- Writing/Publishing - eBooks - Online Promotion - Web Marketing/Promotion, - Offline/Traditional Marketing - Under 500 words

The Reality of Arranged Marriages

By Lacey Savage Arranged marriages have been a topic of interest for centuries. Authors across the ages have explored this theme at length, and it still surfaces in literary works today. What's the appeal? Is it the fascination with the lack of lust and desire we cultivate in North American society? We strive on the element of danger, of the forbidden, while an arranged marriage is usually a safe way to ensure a family's approval of a union. And yet, many of today's romance novels deal with marriages of convenience. Weve all read them: the heroine marries the hero because she needs him, whether for financial reasons, or because her children need a father -- there are as many reasons to marry as there are novels dealing with this subject. Yet although the marriage isnt initially based on love, theres always that sensual tension simmering beneath the surface, and as readers, we know its inevitable that the two are going to fall deeply and irrevocably in love. But what about real life, where things dont always work out so well? Arranged marriages are commonplace in a number of countries, such as Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Japan and India. Theyre more common than youd think even in North America, where cultural diversity is cherished and encouraged. Young people in countries where arranged marriages are commonplace are told from an early age that their spouse will be chosen for them. To deny an arranged marriage is seen as a sign of disrespect toward the family. But how are suitable spouses chosen? In Japan, for instance, "when a woman reaches the marriageable age of 25, she and her parents compile a packet of information about her, including a photograph of her in a kimono and descriptions of her family background, education, hobbies, accomplishments and interests. Her parents then inquire among their friends and acquaintances to see if anyone knows a man who would be a suitable husband for her" (the Asia Society's Video Letter from Japan: My Family, 1988). Usually, the most important aspect of choosing a suitable spouse is the bond between the two families, rather than the relationship between the couple being married. Property or land with the aim of securing social status sometimes seals marriage agreements. Do arranged marriages work? Opinions tend to differ. Statistics place the divorce rate for arranged marriages much lower than those in the United States, where marriages out of love are the rule. However, research also shows that the pressure a married couple encounters from both society as a whole, and from the respective families, suggests that divorce is often not an option. Can love grow out of an arranged marriage? Absolutely, and in the same way that love can grow in romance novels from a marriage of convenience. But theres more to love than finding a suitable match. Love can grow for many reasons, from lust at first sight to friendship that develops over a long period of time. Its impossible to predict whether a union will be successful. The only two people who can make it work are the bride and groom, the hero and heroine of their own story. Online Mentorship Programs: Cash in on Your Expertise

creativity, a championship bridge player, or a
psychotherapist with a long current waiting list for
openings, if you possess expertise that makes colleagues
and aficionados want your pearls of wisdom, you can create
a new income stream with an online mentorship program. Such a program charges a fee for people to sit at your feet
and learn from you. The program would have a special focus
(not for everyone) and offer information, resources,
advice, insider tips and problem solving. While a
mentorship program could take place in the "real world," it
is especially easy to set it up, promote and run it online. Before I created my online mentorship program,
MarketingforMore.com, in the fall of 2003, I did extensive
research on fees and features of other programs. I looked
most closely at seven examples whose fees ranged from $30 a
month to just less than $600 a month. At the lower end of this spectrum, $30 a month didn't give
members very much personal access to the expert around whom
the program revolved, while at nearly $600 a month, a
member received just about unlimited private access to the
expert. Likewise, the program with the lowest fee accepted
anyone who applied, while the higher fees required

is the best and most reliable such tool, with a one-time
licensing fee of $3,500 and up. Since my husband is a
programmer, we built our own site with a password-protected
area and an online application for prospective members to
fill out. However much or little you decide to charge, it's essential
for members to feel they're getting their money's worth,
and that means that you must offer quite a lot of
member-only content, with fresh material added often. I
not only quit one mentorship site but also asked for my
money back because it didn't live up to the promise of
listings that were updated daily and the site owner
appeared to be nowhere in evidence. Be flexible in what you're willing to offer members. I
started off thinking that a member-only discussion board
was the best way for members to get feedback and advice
from me, but I learned that while some members loved that,
others preferred the exchange of ideas in a live conference
call. So I added those to my program. Because I thoroughly researched and planned before
launching my online mentorship program and have remained
determined to have members think they're getting an
